Southwestern Academy ArtsFest 2018
Under a beautiful Southern California sky, Southwestern Academy students and instructors celebrated the annual ArtsFest Day. Students proudly presented visual art, music, dance and drama performances. Also on display were various forms of art, including art- glass pieces, woodturning and woodblock design, line drawings, 3D design and robot design, oil paintings, unique soap etchings, Lightwell application designs, photography, and more.
The signature art piece, created by Violet Zhang, was a mammoth-sized mural that stood 28 feet by 8 feet. The recreation of Michelangelo’s, Creation of Adam, focused on the hands coming together, inspiring creation and creativity in man. This piece served as the backdrop and was designed to show Southwestern’s two campuses (Arizona and California) coming together.
Students performed nearly fifty musical numbers, with special presentations by Amelia Chen, Apple Wang, Sherry Mai, Macy Wang, and Jolie Liu. Not to be outdone, Southwestern mathematics teacher, Mr. Wong sang “Don’t Stop Believing” which put smiles on the faces of students and staff.
Mr. Kohn and Mr. Gerowitz spearheaded the event and should receive thanks. Their inspiration and hard work lead to a successful showcase of Southwestern Academy students’ talent. Congratulations to all.
