VACATION HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS for

For all Music and Choir Students (Periods 1, 2, 3, 4, 6): Choose a new
musician that you are interested in and answer the following
questions, based on research. You must write on a new musician who
you did not write about for Thanksgiving homework. Copying a friend's
assignment will lead to a grade of zero (F).

Cite your sources for all information that you use
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfgang_amadeus_mozart). If you're not
sure who to write about, or are interested in learning about some a
new musician, please email me at southwesternmusic@gmail.com. If you
are in two of my classes, you will have to complete two projects on
different musicians.

Due the day we return to classes (Tuesday) and must be typed. If you
send a document, make sure your name and your musician's name are both
in the title of the document (example: Michael Kohan_Miles Davis.doc).
Please don't just paste the text in an email. If you email me
(southwesternmusic@gmail.com), please put your name in the email
subject, and the words "Christmas Vacation homework" too. Good luck
and don't forget that you'll also have to learn to sing and/or play
one of the songs by this musician.

What is your musician's name?

When were they born?

Are they still alive? If not, when did they die?

What country is your musician from?

Who was the spouse (husband or wife) of your musician?

Did your musician have any children? If so, how many? Are any of them
also musicians?

What other occupation(s) or jobs did your musician have? Or were they
a full-time practicing musician?

Did the musician go to music school? If so, where? What kind of music
did they study?

How would your musician have traveled from place to place playing his
music? (Car, Train, Horse, Horse and Carriage, or simply virtually
through Youtube, MTV music videos, etc.)

What type of instruments did your musician use? (electric guitar,
electric bass, violin, drum set, trumpet, etc.)

Did your musician have any influences in his music?

What inspired your musician to make their music?

Which genre is he/she mostly associated with? (Jazz, Rock, Classical, etc.)

Give a brief description of this style of music in several sentences.

List 5 adjectives that describe this genre (or style) of music?

When did this style of music take place (years)?

Which other artists were associated with this style of music? List at least 5.

Where did this style of music take place? (New York, Seattle, Paris, etc.)

Write out one quote from the musician.

Listen (from beginning to end) to 5 songs that you like the most by
your musician. Write down the title’s for each song and the year it
was composed or first performed.

Learn to sing and/or play on your instrument one of this musician's songs.

List lyrical or stylistic subjects or theme’s that are consistent in
most of their songs.

Write a brief statement about why you dislike or like your musician.
