INTERESTS OTHER THAN TEACHING: I love to learn new things. My current areas of study are object orientated computer programming, interactive video displays and audio engineering. I also love baseball, historical fiction and camping.
I LIKE TEACHING AT SOUTHWESTERN BECAUSE: Being able to work with students in a supportive and nurturing environment on a wide variety of interesting topics and projects is very exciting for me. Southewestern Academy also provides my students with plentiful chances to perform their work, which is both invaluable to them as far as providing them with the experiences they need but it also puts all of my lessons into a more practical/real world context.
FAVORITE QUOTE: “Technique for the improviser is not an arbitrary consumption of an abstract standardized method but rather a direct attunement with the mental, spiritual and mechanical energy necessary to express a full creative impulse.” -Wadada Leo Smith
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY: I believe that all students are different, and because of this a unique approach needs to be tailored to each student, individually. The study of music is really the study of learning how to learn and I strive to give my students the skills and confidence to transform and improve the way that they learn and to instill a thirst for knowledge and experience that will grow and stay with them.
