I like teaching at Southwestern because: I love the small classes and the family atmosphere. I get to know my students on a variety of levels, academically, personally, and emotionally. Even if they don’t love mathematics, as I do, I learn to appreciate their other gifts and talents and to use this knowledge to not only teach them, but also to encourage them in their educational journey.
My teaching philosophy: “Mathematics is not a spectator sport.” Students learn math, by doing math and students work on math everyday in my classes, they don't just listen. They explore math through the use of white boards, graphing calculators, the geometers’ sketchpad computer program, a variety of puzzles, field trips, and through the presentation of written, oral and visual math related projects.
