Hailey Foster
Science/Chemistry
(since 2008)
Email: hfoster@southwesternacademy.edu

Birthplace:
Truckee, CA (but I grew up in Spokane, WA)

College Degree: B.A. Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, Scripps College

Classes taught: General Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Pre-Calculus, Pre-Algebra

I am in charge of the following school events/activities: SPHERE (Southwestern Peer Health Education Resource Exchange), Mediterranean Dinner

Something you might not know: I played bass in a funk band call "The Fuzz" for four years in college.

Interests other than teaching: Going to live concerts and music festivals, exploring Pasadena, trying new foods, learning about current neuroscience research.

I like teaching at Southwestern because: Although the class sizes are small here, we still have an extremely diverse student body, which allows me to constantly improve my teaching skills as I try to reach all of my students. I also enjoy the fact that I can try out novel pedagogical methods with the support of the administration.

My teaching philosophy: I believe that, as no two students are exactly the same, the most effective teachers do not attempt to instruct using a "one-size-fits-all" approach. While I hold high expectations for every one of them, I am constantly seeking new techniques by which to differentiate instruction for each student so that they all may reach their potential.
